PRODUCT NOTE
Legendary Pu-erh Tea Master Lu Li-Chen & Artisanal Teas from Taiwan
Mr. Lu (or Lü Li Zhen) is the main artisan behind the revival of Yiwu's brick and mortar artisanal Pu-erh (Puer) tea cake. In the 1990s, Mr. Lu and the surviving local craftsmen brought back the micro tea makers' traditional Puer cake methodology after decades of demise. Yiwu, home to high-quality Raw Puer Tea on the southern border of China, is once again bustling with artisans crafting this centennial craft was revived. The region now thrives with Puer creation.
Mr. Lu's Puer has been decorated with multiple accolades for many years that Puer has come back to life. His streaks include the grad prize in 2010 for his Zhenwei Hao, the signature premium Puer. He's also been at the forefront of promoting Taiwan's artisanal oolong tea for the past couple of decades, starting with his helming position at the international tea association.
Now, Lihao Lifestyle is introducing you to the love and craftsmanship of Mr. Lu's artisanal teas.
A long-standing favorite of Zhenwei
Foshou is a classic favorite of Zhenwei even though this varietal of oolong is currently "out of style."
Foshou literally translates to Buddha's Hand. One is due to the varietal's large sized leaf, which reminds us of the size of Buddha's palm (probably referencing smaller statues). The other refers to the ancient citrus fruit that goes by the same name (Buddha's Hand) for the tea's sweet citrus notes.
The cultivar was brought over to Taiwan more than a century ago during Qing Dynasty. As it's also from Fujian's Wuyi Mountain area, this traditionally higher-oxidation oolong boasts the terroir's famous deep rocky (earthy) notes and Taiwan terroir's sweet flavors.
